Digger Takes Over Leicester Square: Behind the Scenes of a Landmark Premiere Shoot

This week, Leicester Square belonged to Digger. On Monday and Tuesday, the UK premiere transformed the heart of the West End into a sea of cameras, crowds and red carpet glamour — and Over Exposed was on the ground to capture every second of it.

A Production on a Different Scale

Film premieres are part of what we do best — but this one pushed things further than most. The scale of the event demanded a scale of coverage to match, and that’s exactly what we brought: an 11-camera setup spanning the full footprint of Leicester Square, built to capture the premiere from every conceivable angle.

That meant a jib gliding smoothly over the crowds for those sweeping establishing shots, RF cameras weaving through the chaos to catch candid, close-up moments as talent arrived, a Steadicam operator moving fluidly alongside guests to keep the energy of the red carpet feeling alive and immediate, and a drone overhead, pulling back to show just how much of the Square the event actually occupied.

Individually, each camera discipline does a specific job. Together, they build a complete picture — the kind of coverage that lets you feel both the intimacy of the red carpet and the sheer scale of a premiere taking over one of London’s most iconic locations.

The Team Behind the Cameras

None of this happens with cameras alone. Productions of this size are won and lost on coordination — camera operators, riggers, drone pilots and on-the-ground crew all working in sync across two demanding days, adapting in real time as the event unfolded around them.

From the early rigging and setup through to the final wrap, it was a genuine team effort, and one we’re proud of. Pulling together a shoot of this complexity — in a live public space, under time pressure, with no room for a second take — takes trust in the people either side of you, and this team delivered.

Why It Mattered

Premieres like this aren’t just about the film — they’re a moment. A chance for a location as recognisable as Leicester Square to be reshaped, if only for a day or two, around a single event. Capturing that properly means thinking beyond a single camera or a single angle, and building coverage that does justice to both the film and the occasion.

We’re proud to have been trusted with that job for Digger, and even prouder of how the team rose to meet it. It’s exactly the kind of production we love being part of — big, complex, and demanding the best from everyone involved.
